The Wolves of Elanti

About Me

Many years ago, when Elanti was an island for magicians and wolves to live side by side, a sorcerer talented with earth-related magic named Chrysocolla used an emerald she discovered and cast a spell on it, creating a familiar named Hircine to work with her. Both sorcerer and familiar worked together for many years, with Hircine being given the task to watch over the island's forests and fauna and keep the island safe, should a disaster arise, and a special forest underground was created to act as his own safehouse, where no one would be able to access him.

Many years passed and the bond between the two strengthed, but eventually Chrissie succumbed to a dreadful disease and, not wanting to lose her familiar too, took Hircine's emerald, the object that she used to create him and acted as his heart, and she threw it into the lake on top of the volcano and locked in it stone so no one would be able to do harm to him. When his creator finally died, Hircine fell into a sort of depression and kept himself hauled up in his forest, refusing to leave, and while he had his guard down, other humans took advantage of the island.

A group of pirates arrived one morning and ransacked the island. Although the wolves and the humans were powerful, there were too many of them to face. When Hircine heard of the disruption from the surface and felt himself weakening, he arrived to see what was happening, only to find his forest being burnt down to the ground. In a last attempt to survive, he rushed back to the volcano to make sure that his crystal would not be affected and he would continue Chrissie's work, before the damage to his forest and the animals became too great for him to bear and he passed out from the pain.

Waking up a few years later, Hircine was left clueless and confused as to what was happening, not realising that he was suffering amnesia his long coma and the fact that a section of his forest was burnt to the ground. For a while he wandered around blinding, trying to find out where he belonged, before he returned back to the volcano and spotted a crystal lying at the bottom of the lake. Upon coming into contact with it, all his memories rushed back to him, and he returned back to his forest sanctuary to find not all three of the wolves he had known still alive. Now, he continues to work as a protector of Elanti's forest and fauna, doing his best to prevent a second disaster.

Hircine isn't really a wolf, but more of a ghost. He uses the animals around him and possesses them, controling their bodies and minds. The animal he possesses gains a ghostly green aura with strange green markings until Hircine leaves the creature, so it is quite easy to tell which animal Hircine has possessed. When he is not in another creature's body, he is seen as a transparent black wolf with a green glowing aura but is able to transform into any other creature when not in a body, normally a deer or an elk, for protection in case there are no animals for him to possess. He is not able to stay in his ghost form forever, though, and he must possess other animals so he can drink, eat, sleep and do other activities. However, he is unable to be touched or killed when not in a body. When Hircine is most powerful, his aura is unable to actually be seen, and becomes virtually invisible. Normally, when he is strongest, can possess any animal and once possessed, it will turn into a pure white elk with green eyes.

His personality is normally very calm, but can change quite rapidly depending on what animal he has possessed.

Autumn (Winter is coming...)

Rainforest Pack- With things cooling down in preparation for winter, the humidity is also lowering, and things should be rather comfortable for you now. The large leaves should keep most of the heat in, but don't expect things to stay warm for very long.

Plains Pack- The sun isn't as strong, now that summer has passed, so you should be free to wander your territory without the uncomfort of the burning sun. Food should be average- the cows aren't really going anywhere, but still try not to overhunt.

Oceans Pack- Winds coming from the ocean will definitely cool things down more, although the sun still is shining. Staying in your cave with the warmth of a fire by night should give you the warmth you need. That, or going to other packs is an option. Food is rather scarce, with some fish migrating to warmer waters, so you may need to hunt elsewhere.

Waterfall Pack- With lots of the trees shedding their leaves, there isn't much cover from the sun, although you don't really need it. Because of the incoming cold, staying warm indoors is probably the best way to go, and don't forget to catch those birds before they fly south for the winter.

Volcano Pack- Animals should be started to gather food for hibernation, so you may want to catch them quick before they disappear for the next three months. The waters between the main island and the volcano are much colder and have stronger currents, so moving between the two will islands will be difficult.

Mountain Pack- Be prepared for a cold winter ahead and lots of snow. Enjoy the warm sun while you still can before the cold catches you next season. It's also a good idea to hunt and store your food, so that you won't starve during the winter.

Borderlands- The canopy is painted with orange and yellow, and slowly disappearing. Although it proves as good camouflage for orange and red wolves, it won't help to hide you. Animals are also disappearing in preparaiton for hibernation, and the forest is quickly quietening down.

Heaven- No news
